Igando Pipeline Explosion

In the early hours of Wednesday 5th, Dec 2019 around 7:45 am, a massive explosion occurred in Igando axis of Lagos state.

This explosion according to residents is believed to be a result of activities by Pipeline vandals in the area.

The fire outbreak occurred around Idowu Egba bus stop, which is along Isheri/Lasu Igando road.

Glory Land, Diamond Estate and its environs were affected to a large extent.

The pipeline is believed to be that of the NNPC located along the axis.

Although an Eye witness said a man came to have a bath at the river near the pipeline with his Pastor.

And they were warned by those around about fuel spillage floating on the water, but they failed to heed to the warning.

And the said man was alleged to be with a candle, and the lilted candle was what resulted in the fire outbreak

Immediately the fire started, the Lagos state fire service was alerted, although they got there a bit late they were able to fight the fire and rescued two victims.

Although there is only one casualty, for now, another victim who is yet to be identified sustained higher degree burns and was immediately rushed to the General hospital at Igando.

This morning Igando pipeline explosion is neither the second or third of its kind in that area (Ikotun, Ejigbo}.

The Federal government over the years has continually sensitized dwellers around pipelines to avoid vandalizing these pipelines for their own safety.
